Procrastimeter privacy policy
Last updated: 2026-10-07
Procrastimeter is a time tracker for macOS and Windows, made by Dmytro Demianov, an independent developer ("I", "me").
The short version: Procrastimeter doesn't collect, send or share any data about you. Everything stays on your computer.
What the app stores on your device
- Your tracked time. For each session: whether it was focused or distracted, when it started and ended, and the time zone offset at that moment. This is the history you see in the statistics.
- Your settings. Hotkeys, overlay position and size, appearance, and similar choices.
- A small diagnostic log (Windows) with app events and error messages, kept in the app's data folder and capped in size. On macOS, diagnostic messages go to the system log.
- An encryption key that protects your history: Windows keeps it protected with your Windows account (DPAPI), macOS in the Keychain.
Your history is stored in an encrypted file. None of this is sent to me or to anyone else; the app has no account, no sync and no cloud.
What the app does not do
- No accounts or sign-in.
- No analytics, tracking, advertising or crash-reporting libraries from me or third parties.
- No network connections of its own: the macOS app runs in the App Sandbox without network access, and the Windows app contains no code that sends data over the internet.
- It doesn't read what you type, what's on your screen, which apps or websites you use. It only notices the three hotkeys you press and the moments your computer sleeps or locks, to end a running session.
Purchases
Procrastimeter Pro is a one-time purchase handled entirely by the Mac App Store or the Microsoft Store. I never see your payment details or your Apple or Microsoft account. The stores give developers aggregated reports (for example, number of sales and downloads, and, if you chose to share it, usage and crash statistics); these are collected by Apple or Microsoft under their own privacy policies:
- Apple: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
- Microsoft: https://privacy.microsoft.com/privacystatement
On Windows, the purchase and the check of your Pro license are done by the Microsoft Store service that is part of Windows, which talks to Microsoft's servers; Procrastimeter itself doesn't send this information anywhere. On macOS, the App Store does the same through the system.
Backups and exports
If you create a backup (.pmbackup) or export a CSV file, the file is saved where you choose. Backups are encrypted so that they open in Procrastimeter; CSV files are plain text. Where you keep or send these files is up to you.
Deleting your data
- In the app: Settings → Data → Delete All Data removes all tracked time.
- Uninstalling the app removes its data on Windows. On macOS, use Delete All Data first, then move the app to the Trash.
Because I don't hold any of your data, there is nothing for me to delete, export or correct on my side.
Children
Procrastimeter isn't directed at children, and it collects no personal information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, I'll update this page and the date above. Changes that affect your data would also be mentioned in the app's release notes.
