Broom privacy policy
Last updated: 2026-10-23
Broom Duplicate Cleaner ("Broom", "the app") is made by Dmytro Demianov, an independent developer ("I", "me").
The short version: Broom processes files on your computer and does not send me your files, file names, paths or scan results. The app has no account system, server or cloud sync. Messages you choose to send by email are described below.
Access to files
Broom reads file contents, names, paths, sizes and other file information in the folders you choose to find duplicates and carry out the file operations you request. Comparison happens locally; the app does not upload your files or comparison results to a developer-operated server.
If you choose a network or cloud-backed folder, your operating system or storage provider may download files to make them accessible. That communication is governed by the provider's settings and privacy policy.
What is stored on your device
- Settings: selected, excluded and protected folders, scan and copy-selection preferences, language and appearance. On macOS, permissions to reopen selected folders and access files moved to the Trash by Broom are also stored, so those files can be restored.
- Cleanup history: dates, scan folders, names, sizes and locations of kept and removed copies, drive information used for restoration, and cleanup outcomes. File contents are not copied into history.
- Rating-prompt information: successful scan counts, usage time and previous requests, to avoid asking for a rating too early or repeatedly.
- Diagnostic logs: information about app activity and errors. These may contain file paths. The app automatically deletes logs older than 30 days.
This information is stored in the app's local data folder and is not automatically sent to me.
Keeping and deleting data
Broom keeps the 50 most recent cleanup records and automatically deletes older ones. You can remove an individual record or clear the history in the app; this does not delete the files themselves. History contains records of operations, not backup copies of your files.
Settings and rating-prompt information remain until they are removed along with the app's local data. I cannot access this information or delete it remotely. Your operating system manages files in the Trash or Recycle Bin.
Purchases and app stores
Broom Pro is a one-time purchase through the Mac App Store or Microsoft Store. The system's store handles payment and license checks. I do not receive your payment details or your Apple or Microsoft account details.
The stores may provide me with aggregated reports, such as sales and download counts, as well as usage and crash statistics if you have chosen to share them. Apple or Microsoft collects this information under its own privacy policy:
- Apple: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
- Microsoft: https://privacy.microsoft.com/privacystatement
Broom may also invite you to rate the app through the store. Rating is optional; the request contains no information about your files or scan results. The relevant store handles reviews; a review you publish may be publicly visible.
Support messages and error reports
Broom does not send crash reports automatically. The app may open a draft in your email app; you decide what to write, which logs to attach and whether to send it.
If you email me, I receive your email address, message and any attachments you choose to send. I use them to reply and diagnose the issue. Correspondence stays in my email for as long as needed to handle your request. You can ask me to delete messages and attachments you have sent by contacting the address below.
What Broom does not do
- It does not use embedded analytics, tracking, advertising or automatic crash-reporting services.
- It does not create a user profile or require a Broom account.
- It does not automatically send me your files or information about your use of the app.
I do not sell your data or use support messages for advertising or tracking.
Children
Broom is not specifically directed at children. The app does not automatically send me users' personal information, including children's information.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, I will update this page and the date above. Changes to the app that affect your data will also be mentioned in the release notes.
